In addition to checking on the surgeons qualifications, it’s a great idea to check out the facilities credentials at the same time.

Depending on the procedure and the plastic surgeon, the surgery performed may be in the doctor’s own private surgical suite or in a hospital. Some procedures are performed in the hospital while others may be performed in an outpatient ambulatory center.

Where the procedure will be done can depend on you as the patient also. Obviously, the location will depend partly on the complexity of the procedure but your general health may play a part in the decision of where the procedure is performed. It is critical that you be completely honest with your plastic surgeon regarding any prior or existing health issues so that educated decisions are made to your benefit.

Ask about the Medical Staff that will assist in the procedure. In the consultation with your Plastic Surgeon, be sure to ask who will be on the support team before, during and after the procedure. In some cases, the support team is more involved with the patient before and after the procedure than the surgeon – so it is important to know who you will be dealing with.

The key person that you certainly should inquire about and feel comfortable with is the anesthesiologist. The anesthesiologist is the person who will be administering and monitoring the anesthesia. When determining risks during any surgery anesthesia is usually considered. Know who the anesthesiologist is and what their credentials are prior to surgery.
